SAFE HANDOVERS
GivEco Safety Guidelines
Version 1.0 · effective 18 October 2026
GivEco helps users connect to give items away free of charge. These guidelines explain precautions to take when using the service, communicating, and handing items over. They do not replace the Terms or Privacy Policy.
1. Protect your account
- Use a unique password and do not share it. GivEco will never ask you to send your password in a message.
- Use a verified email address and secure your mailbox. Open account verification and password reset links only when you initiated the request.
- Log out after using the service on a shared device. Never send login details, BLIK codes, or card details in chat.
2. Watch out for scams and payment requests
- Items given through GivEco are free. The service does not charge to receive an item or ask for card details, a BLIK code, or bank login to collect an item or parcel.
- Do not open unexpected links for ‘receiving a payment’, ‘paying a courier fee’, or ‘verification’. Check the web address and, if unsure, contact the other person only through the service chat.
- The chat filter may warn about selected phrases associated with scams and flag them for moderation. It does not check every message, and a warning alone does not establish that a user has acted improperly.
3. Arrange handovers carefully
- Agree in chat on the item's condition, handover method, and time. For in-person collection, choose a safe public place and consider bringing someone with you.
- Shipping takes place outside GivEco. The service does not order parcels, collect shipping fees, integrate directly with InPost for this feature, or verify shipment codes. Check order details in your own app or with the carrier.
- Share your address and phone number only when needed for the agreed handover. Avoid publishing them in a listing or profile.
4. Report suspicious content
- Use the report option on a listing, conversation, or message if you suspect fraud, a breach of the Terms, or a safety risk. Describe the issue clearly; do not include passwords or payment details.
- The Administrator reviews reports and may request more information, restrict content or an account under the Terms, or close a report if no breach is established. Decisions are subject to the appeal process in the Terms.
- For safety matters, contact giveco@giveco.eu. If there is an immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
5. Rules about items
- Do not list items prohibited by law or the Terms. Live animals may not be offered. Food listings are subject to the restrictions shown on the service and require in-person collection.
- Automated filters may flag a listing or message for review, but they do not replace moderator assessment or users' responsibility for their content.
6. How we protect the service
- The service uses HTTPS, form validation, and rate limits for selected actions. Passwords are stored as cryptographic hashes, and administrative access is restricted.
- Listing images are stored outside the directly public directory and served through a controlled application feature. Reports and selected anti-fraud signals may be reviewed by the Administrator.
- No technical measure can guarantee complete protection against every threat. If you notice suspicious account activity or a security issue, contact us at giveco@giveco.eu, without publicly sharing details that could make the issue easier to exploit.
7. Changes to these guidelines
We may update this page when the service, moderation practices, or safety recommendations change. The current version is published here. For information about data processing, read the Privacy Policy, and the rules for using the service are set out in Terms.
